What ICBC says
“Vehicles from other provinces and countries must be inspected at a B.C. designated inspection facility to ensure that it meets B.C.'s safety standards.”
ICBC also lists exemptions, including new vehicles and some vehicles coming from Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba under the New West Partnership Trade Agreement. Read ICBC's page , ask your Autoplan broker, or just call us and we'll tell you whether you need one.
Who needs one?
Most vehicles registered outside BC need to pass an inspection at a BC designated inspection facility before they can be registered here. Some are exempt. ICBC's page above has the official list, and we're happy to check for you over the phone.
What should I bring?
Your vehicle, and we'll tell you exactly what else when you call, so you only make the trip once. For the registration side, ICBC publishes an out-of-province registration checklist for your Autoplan broker visit.
How long does it take?
Call ahead and we'll give you a time. We'll tell you up front how long to plan for.
What does it cost?
ICBC notes that inspection prices vary between facilities. Ours is quoted when you call, before we start. No surprises, and customers regularly tell us our pricing is fair.
What if something fails?
We'll show you exactly what didn't pass and why, and quote the fix plainly. You decide what happens next, with no pressure. Only the work that's genuinely needed.
What happens after it passes?
You take your paperwork to an Autoplan broker, who registers, licenses and insures the vehicle for driving in BC.
